Athletics (Special Olympics) at Westminster Lodge Sports Centre, St Albans

Sport / Outdoor Adventure

The St Albans Sport and Health Development Team have implemented a number of activity programmes accessible to both children and adults who have a learning and/or physical disability. These projects have been developed to provide a wide range of opportunities in a fun and supportive environment. Special Olympics aims to support athletes in building confidence, self esteem and skill levels as well as training with and competing against other athletes in local, regional and national Special Olympic events.

SOSA sessions are run by qualified, professional coaches who are supported by a number of valuable volunteers. We encourage all people in St Albans to get involved in well being and sports activities in a fun and supportive environment.

All of our sessions are open to young people with learning or physical difficulties. There's no need to book (with the exception of equestrian and Thursday swimming sessions where pre booking is required).

No experience is required and all ability levels are welcome. There is an annual membership fee for every athlete of £25 on a sliding scale.  This runs from October to September annually. You'll have to complete a consent form and athlete code of conduct when you join.

Our Athletics sessions take place at Westminster Lodge Sports Centre every Monday during term time from 6pm. Activities are inside during winter and outside at the running track during the summer term. Each session is £5 and you can attend as many or as little sessions as you like.
