The St Albans NCS programme
Summer 2017 schedule for the St Albans district (St Albans, Harpenden, London Colney, Redbourn, Colney Heath and surrounding areas):
Part 1 – Embark on an adventure
You’ll spend four nights away from home at Kingswood Colomendy Outdoor Centre in North Wales (CH7 5LB) from 7th to 11th August 2017. There you’ll experience the freedom of living away from home in an outdoor environment. You’ll take part in a whole spectrum of adrenaline-fuelled activities, such as raft building, archery, rock climbing, kayaking and the 'leap of faith' on high ropes. You’ll get to know your team mates, build confidence and leadership skills and achieve things you never thought possible.
Part 2 – Build skills for life
Part 2 is a further four nights away from home at Hudnall Park, Hudnall Common, Little Gaddesden (HP4 1QN) from 14th to 18th August 2017. This week is all about developing skills for life. You’ll take part in workshops and learn skills such as emergency first aid. No team will make it through this week without mastering the art of communication and encouragement.
Part 3 – Back on home turf
Part 3 is 30 hours over five days (non-residential) 21st-25th August 2017 based at the Harpenden Youth Centre (above Harpenden Library). You’ll have the opportunity to design your own social action project, which will benefit your local community. You’ll pitch your ideas to the rest of your team and then work together to plan, research and create the resources needed to turn your ideas into reality.
Part 4 – Make your mark on your local community
During Part 4 you’ll spend a further 30 hours over five days (non-residential) at the Harpenden Youth Centre, 28th August-1st September 2017, making your project come to life, demonstrating the impressive skills you’ve developed and working with your team to make a lasting difference in your local area.
Everyone who successfully completes NCS with Youth Connexions will be invited to the graduation event in September. You'll be reunited with your team mates and can showcase all your achievements to your parents/carers and receive your NCS certificates of achievement.
