The St Albans Sexual Health Clinic at St Albans City Hospital offers a range of sexual health and contraception services including free condoms, emergency contraception and HIV testing (and advice and treatment where appropriate). All services are free and confidential to anyone regardless of age or gender.

The St Albans Sexual Health Clinic offers a wide range of sexual health and contraception services, including:

  • Free condoms
  • Screening for sexually transmitted infections and genitourinary infections
  • Nurse-led STI screening clinics for people without symptoms
  • Male and female specialist clinics for genital problems
  • Family planning service including emergency contraception and coil fitting
  • Same day HIV testing and follow up care
  • Hepatitis screening and vaccination
  • Safer sex advice and counselling
  • Sexual assault services
  • Psychosexual counselling
  • Post exposure prophylaxis for HIV

Tests performed
In general, and unless indicated otherwise by your particular symptoms, you will be tested for chlamydia, gonorrhoea, trichomonas and if male for non-specific urethritis. You may also be tested for candida and bacterial vaginosis if you are female and have any symptoms. A blood test for syphilis and HIV is performed unless you decline these tests.

Results
Some results and treatment are available before you leave the clinic. Most other results will be ready in two working weeks. The results will be sent by text message to your mobile phone unless you prefer to ring for your results. Results lines are open Monday to Friday 09.00-09.30. Telephone number: 01727 897433.

The clinic is 'open access' (no appointment needed/walk-in) on week day mornings:

Monday
9.15–11.30am: walk-in clinic for all ages
1.30-4pm: appointments only

Tuesday
9.15–11.30am: walk-in clinic for all ages
9.15-11am same-day HIV test appointments
1.30–5.00pm: appointments only
4.00-6.00pm: Awareness clinic for under-25s (walk-in)

Wednesday
1.30–4.30pm: appointments only

Thursday
9.15-12pm then 2–6pm: walk-in clinic for all ages
6-6.40pm appointment only - call 0300 0085522 to book

Friday
9.15–11.30am: walk in-clinic for all ages
